Ursula von Rydingsvard! Kismet!

A wonderful day of surprises .... we were visiting the National Museums of Women in the Arts & Luba saw an odd item. We didn't know if it was a sculpture, part of a quilt: but when we looked at it -- it was so wonderfully strange, we looked up the artist & stumbled upon Ursula von Rydingsvard! 

And if you think that was random -- Kiki piped up to ask, "Did you all see that I sent info about her to our group yesterday?!" I had missed it for sure. Talk about serendipity! How crazy miraculous is that!! We all agreed it was kismet at work! 


The Top of the Day is every single image we encountered!!! But here's just one we all loved. 

Scientia, 2016. We saw this on her website, but it's installed at MIT's List Visual Art Center


Here is the first image we saw, this strange Apron, from 1997 made out of cedar, stain, and graphite -- link --

Two sculptures she did for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one primarily bronze & the other out of glass -- link -- There's also a video showing the installations.

  Top of the Day is the Alexander McQueen & Damian Hirst Scarves collaboration, butterflies & skulls. Alexander was an avant-garde fashion designer & Damian an artist who pushes the boundary of what art can be. This collaboration is such a delicate beauty & so surprising if you know they work. Please check out the YouTube video below that shows the movement of the fabric on actual people! We saw Yves St. Laurent's tribute to Piet Mondrian's colorful forms & artwork from 1965. Mondrian's original painting and the inspiration for the dress is Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Grey and Blue from 1921 and is included in the links. Mondrian painted so many similar works, but this is the one that Yves St. Laurent said he used primarily.  Next we forayed into another Guerra de la Paz piece called Oasis. Today was a celebration of Public Art in the form of the Buddy Bears, Cow Parade & Manatee Mailboxes because we needed some JOY!!!!  Carmen Miranda Manatee!
