Visiting the Harlem Renaissance Again
We viewed more works from the Harlem Renaissance today -- with little leaps into individual artists' work. The Top of the Day is this astounding mural by Charles Alston from 1949 called Exploration and Colornization. So much history and storytelling in this masterpiece! -- link --

We loved Charles Alston's Seated Figure from 1970; he was such a varied artist exploring many styles and techniques. -- link --
Here's another mask we views of Sargent Claude Johnson from 1939/1941 called #2 Mask -- it's much more abstract than his Mask above -- link --
We need to visit this again, but we quickly looked at more of William H. Johnson's work and this vision: his painting, Marian Anderson from 1945 complete with Eleanor Roosevelt congratulating the Grand Dame of Song.
