Juan R Fuentes!

Yesterday we fell in love with a linocut by Mr. Fuentes (see the 2nd to last entry on this blog) so we leapt to his website to see more of his exquisite artistry. His work spurred lively conversations about the tragedies perpetrated against the Hispanic community in Bisbee Arizona, the exodus of the Jews to Central America during the Spanish Inquisition, hidden Jewish communities in the Americas, and copper skull enameling. We talked a great deal about Día de los Muertos -- and exploring the traditions in future shows.

Please feel free to peruse his website to see more of his work as well as mixed media pieces, posters, etc. -- link --

Here's the linocut from yesterday's meeting that piqued our interest in this maestro's work -- link --. Luis de las Flores II (a tribute to the artist's brother) is also featured on yesterday's blog as the last entry since it was the last thing we viewed Tuesday -- link --.

Finally, we looked briefly at papel picado, the Mexican paper art that adorns so many wonderful festival and holiday events, homes, altars. -- link --
