John Henry, is it a folk tale or is it a legend? It has a connection to Tennessee Ernie Ford like Blue Suede Shoes has to Elvis, but that is another story. John Henry may have been a real person which is also a possibility for Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed. All three of these larger than life super human characters may come from real, very human individuals.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful, joyous painting which has 11 more scenes that you may want to view. One of the characters in this painting reminded me of Burt Reynolds from Smoky and the Bandit but dressed as a Sheriff.
The world is so much larger than my experiences and I welcome learning about diverse thoughts/beliefs and try not to view through my narrow vision. I love that being stuck at home, I have been exposed to so much and savor finding other paths that lead me to humanity! I am so appreciative and this group has become a highlight to my life!!!
I forgot to mention that these are prisoners who were used to build tunnels and railroads in the south. Look at the man in the background to the left using that sledge hammer at the mouth of a tunnel. There is a lot going on!
