We had a delightful start with photos from both Kiki & Vera of Gaudí's works. Like Terry's marvelous showcase yesterday, Kiki & Vera shared details we would not have been able to see in standard photos! Each of the photos really enriched our experiences of what we know of Gaudí's work.

After those lovely gifts, we went to several more Gaudí sites -- we got a little look at the Gaudí House, but need to add more photos of that -- so I will show more tomorrow (as opposed to putting them on here without us having a chance to look at them.)

We then went to El Capricho de Gaudí which is right on the coast of northern Spain. This house heralds the avant-garde / modernist movement in European Architecture. It looks like a cathedral but this ornate structure was built 1883-1885 as a summer home!

Next we saw one of the more staid Gaudí buildings in León. It was originally built as a residential building with a warehouse to store fabric. After many years it became a bank. Though it's less eye-catching than some of the other works we've seen, as a fabric warehouse or bank -- it's still quite a sight.

We got a beginning look at Casa Vicens Gaudí -- what a triumph of design. This is considered the first masterpiece of Gaudí and was built between 1883 and 1885 as a summer house for the Vicens family. We will see more of this master work mañana -- and more Gaudí surprises!

  1. This seems off subject, but when Greg mentioned canals in Long Beach, I said I’d send the Xmas light tours, which is their big event. So for a little bit of “The Holidays”. 2 months late, here’s a video. I suggest using your fast forward button often.
